Hello friends. Happy Monday! How is everyone doing? The sun has come in all its glory in the UK. We Brits are not equipped for heat, let me tell you. If you’ve been to the UK, you may know that the topic of weather is a big conversation point. If you’re ever lost for something to say, the safest bet is to comment on the weather.
‘Cor it’s so hot at the moment!’
‘I can’t believe how much rain we’ve had’
‘Did you hear the wind last night?!’
The comments are endless. We all long for the heat here, but when we get it, we turn into a bunch of wussies. We can’t seem to cope with it. Heat is very different in the UK, though. It’s not like a nice holiday, it just kind of stifles you. God must be looking at us like, ‘You wanted heat, I gave you heat, you complain. I love you, but make up your mind’ 🥲
I’m struggling with hay fever at the moment... at least I think it’s hay fever—sneezing, runny nose, bad throat, etc. I’ve also been feeling drained and have a headache that consistently comes and goes, like a pressure sitting on my eyes. I’m a few days into it, so hopefully, I’ll get better very soon now. Kika also has a very chesty cough, so she’s off school today. Prayers for healing would be appreciated, please!
It was Father’s Day yesterday! I felt very honoured to decorate Kika’s Father’s Day card with her for Tom. It was very sweet, and she did such a good job… look at all the colours!!
It was Amy’s 22nd birthday on the 11th June so we had a belated celebration yesterday for that as well. Myself, Tom, Amy and Matt (my brother-in-law) went to my Uncles Church, then we came back, and I made a picky bits lunch for everyone. Kika’s grandparents dropped her home for lunch and my mum came over. It was so lovely and the food was yum. You’re probably wondering where my dad was seeing as it was Father’s Day… he is using up his holiday days in the Guernsey Islands. We facetimed him instead… he’s having a blast :)
Matt’s gone home now but Amy is staying because… drum roll please…. I’m trying wedding dresses on tomorrow!! Yay! Who knows, I might find THE dress! It’s very exciting. Trying on wedding dresses is something i’ve been looking forward to for years. It’s a dreamy moment. AHHHH!! I’m getting so excited just writing about it.
Work is going well. It’s so fulfilling, and I thoroughly enjoy the serving nature of it. I’ve done story time and baby and toddler rhyme time and it’s the cutest thing. Interacting with all the children and seeing their happy faces is so beautiful. The other day, this 3-year-old boy came in with his dad and I said hello. I said I liked his red spider-man top and we both pretended to be spider man for a minute. Then we spotted other red objects and sang the alphabet song together. It was wonderful.
I think I’m going to try and re-ivent story time as well. Make it more interactive, sound cards, texture cards, storyboards etc. Maybe create some mascots for different ages groups: Curious caterpillars, busy bees, playful penguins, leading lions… all the good stuff :) We’ll see how it all goes.
Side note:
Amy is currently over my shoulder saying “I’ve never seen the behind the scenes of Around the Coffee Table before!!” I think she’s a bit excited to be here on a Monday.
Being in a new routine of writing, working and looking after the house is getting some getting used to. I still have time to write (thank God) but I don’t have as much time anymore, so please bear with me if things don’t come out on time!
See you on Wednesday for the next post in the Ezra and Nehemiah series :) God bless,
