Hello, everyone! I hope you are all feeling blessed and loved. Welcome back to ‘Around the Coffee Table Mondays’. After last week, I prayed that God would move me through a breakthrough. I felt pretty rubbish; I think it was the lasting effects of all that happened in half term and being away from a routine. So, I prayed for a renewal of joy and energy in my Spirit, and God is good! This week has been significantly better and more productive. I’ve felt lighter, more engaged and full of God’s love. It’s a work in progress and we all still have our moments but the sun has come out for the second day in a row so I can’t complain!
I’ve strongly faced the fact that I don’t know as many Bible verses by heart as I would like to. I meet these people from Church or listen to sermons online from people with NO notes, and they are just quoting the Bible or pinpointing verses from memory. It’s impressive and a good indicator that they have rooted themselves in God’s Word. It’s amazing and so convicting as well. Whenever I’m faced with that reality from someone, I get this deep hunger to memorise verses myself. I know it can make all the difference in troubling situations. The eight words I could remember last week came from Isaiah 41:10, “I uphold you with my righteous right hand.” So, I just kept repeating that and noticed a significant difference in my mood… it felt like the Holy Spirit was descending onto me and absorbing all the negativity. I’ve decided to start memorising the 10 commandments (I know most of them but some of them slip through the cracks of my brain… bad isn’t it :/ ), the Armour of God and the Fruits of the Spirit. If I can get those solidified in my mind, I’ll be super happy with myself.
My Church has been speaking about generosity recently. Not exclusive to finances but cultivating that generous attitude. It’s been challenging for me as I can’t really afford to give financially at the moment but I can definitely be generous with my time and talents. Whether that’s trying to get more involved in Church activities, or creating a hosting home for people to come and eat and socialise together. I’m really enjoying it and feel blessed that God has blessed me with the capabilities to do these things. I really love this verse from Proverbs:
“²⁴ There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. ²⁵The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.” - Proverbs 11:24-25
The imagery of water is powerful, as only Jesus can truly quench the thirst in our souls. He is the living water, and if we have that water flowing through us and pass it on to others, Christians or not, what an incredible difference it could make in that person’s life!
This week has also brought an abundance of job adverts for publishing roles, which has been amazing. I’ve been desperately praying for a job but have been struggling to find any opportunities, and suddenly, there seem to be loads being released. I’m applying to as many as possible and praying that, at the very least, I’ll be given the chance to interview at some. It certainly feels clearer, and I feel less anxious about it all. Praise Jesus! I’m making good progress on my Substack as well. Behind the scenes I’ve been busy creating loads of material I hope to start to release soon. From devotionals to series, to poetry. It’s all going on! All in God’s timing.
I hope these posts help the ‘Journey with God’ community get to know me better. It’s a blessing to connect with you all.
Please feel free to share how your week is going in the comments! I read every comment left on my posts and notes and absolutely LOVE hearing from you.
